this is the MAINTAINED trail?! - yeah, really! |
a GREAT easter run today ...
discovered the great walk was re-opened on the 21st .. so decided to head in and do it :)
the goal? to run under four hours ...
went to the gym, did pump and balance first, lined up with kerrin to give me a lift back to pick up my car at brandy creek after i had completed it in the afternoon, then, headed home to spend a little time with storm before she went to work ...
early afternoon headed out to brandy creek... surprisingly, a few cars in the car park but i didnt see anyone at all when i was in there running ...
it has been closed for maintenance?! ... yet the trail is still very overgrown, the canopy overtop is ok to deal with, very pretty ... however makes for a constant and fatiguing avoidance of the branches whipping into my face ... underfoot, very tough though.
my feet kept sinking into the overgrown weeds and becoming entangled so a few, very slow, unrunnable areas to conquer and fight with, ok, the BEST fun! :D me. in my element.
- it looks as though they have merely driven a quad bike through, trying to trample down the weeds, which are now growing once again ... a couple areas you cant even see there is actually even a trail, VERY difficult to 'run' ...
however despite it's unkempt state, did a very, im pleased with it 3hrs 28minutes, a minute slower than my fastest time bummer! :D but considering it hasnt been opened and my first time this year - a good introduction back!
pulled up a little weary to kerrins, certainly felt every one of those 27kms .. but, a cup of tea, lots of water, and ... a brand new woman ready to go again! gosh i have missed trail running. need to keep it up because the high is just to incredible a feeling ... :D two super slithery speedy snakes, a slothful carpet snake, two wild pigs, and a handful of webs complete with spiders, finish off the adventure of it all ... love running. love solitude. love nature.
next weekend, across and back - under 8 hours, the goal.
