making change

Upon making a definitive decision to lose weight and become healthier there are usually many changes we all need to consider.
For most of us it becomes a roller coaster journey and the challenges faced can either leave us exhilarated when we feel we are succeeding or simply floored when we feel we have veered off the path.
What are you going to do when it’s tougher - quit because it’s hard? Quit because success hasn’t occured overnight? Quit because someone said you can’t do it? No, you’re better than that. You’re going to keep on pushing, learning, and growing.
For those on the cusp of that decision - whether you’re thinking of cleaning out the kitchen cupboards to begin eating more healthy or to finally start exercising, STOP procrastinating and do it - now!

• Identify exactly what it is you want then don’t let anything stand in your way of achieving the goal. By setting specific goals, along with deadlines, you are providing yourself with a measuring stick.
• Do the best with everything you have control over.  Most people fail to control themselves, and end up self condemning. We trade minutes of supposed pleasure (fast food) for days, weeks, months, and years of regret. Remember that the pleasure of eating lasts for only minutes, but you inhabit your body 24 hours a day, seven  days a week - for life.
Rather than trying to “out-exercise” your bad diet, you must PLAN ahead to overcome obstacles. Otherwise, you’ll never succeed.
• Replace bad habits  - everyday. To make a lasting change in your health and appearance you must do everything you can to resist falling back on old negative habits no matter how much you are tempted. Try adding a new healthy habit each day to replace an old unhealthy one.
• Build your new life one positive step at a time, consistent baby steps to improvement. Each and every single day becomes a little better than yesterday.
• Try something new, monitor your body’s response, and decide whether or not that food or exercise works for you. Do everything you can to learn more about your body. The more you know, the faster your success will be.
• Surround yourself with positive people - and yes, they do exist! You might not want to give up hanging out with lazy friends that eat junk all the time, but if it is killing you and making you fat and unhappy, it MUST stop. “You can’t soar like an eagle when you hang out with turkeys”.
By hanging around others with similar goals, you can leverage their knowledge, commitment, support, and success to push yourself harder than you would otherwise be able to.
• Get out of your comfort zone. If you want to accomplish anything, get out of that zone and strive to increase discipline in your life. Discipline means sometimes you’re doing the opposite of what you feel like doing so you can make progress.
• Planning is vital to fat loss success, and, good health. Get as much control as you can by planning, shopping, and preparing, but don’t get upset by things you can’t control. Go with the flow. Breathe. With a weekly plan of meals and workouts in place, you will be much less likely to hit a road bump that takes you down the wrong path. Try setting aside one day to map out your week and you’ll be amazed at how quickly your body transforms itself.
• Focus on behaviours that help you lose fat. Stop accepting mediocre results for yourself. Learn that you are worth the effort.
At the end of the day, personal responsibility is key. Realise you are in charge of your success.
“I shall shape my future. Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man’s doing but my own. I am the force; I can clear any obstacle before me. Or I can be lost in the maze. My choice. My responsibility. Win or lose; only I hold the key to my destiny.” Og Mandino
Your success is up to YOU and you alone. Everyone can succeed and reach their goals. It’s a just a matter of how badly you want it. Stay strong, and become stronger as time goes on, for when you take action you are the one in control your future.
Cheers to a fabulous and active life, Ann
