lets move more

Most Australians will spend 22-23 hours each day sitting or lying down. Shocking - for our health, plus very fat producing. Driving, office work, watching TV, computer time - it all adds up, and the more we sit, the more detrimental it is for us. We really aren’t moving very much at all! Only a small minority of us actually get outside and actively take in all the Whitsundays has on offer or head to the gym to work up a sweat.
In a typical 24 hours most people sleep around six to eight hours each night, get up only to then sit to eat breakfast or read the paper, sit to drive to work, sit at their desk all day, then sit to travel home again. Most will then sit on the couch after a hard day to watch television or sit again at their computer, maybe get up to make some dinner if they haven’t driven through that convenient takeaway, back to the couch and the cycle continues. Does that surprise you when you look at the big picture? Are you sitting for more of your day than standing? Sitting for great lengths of time may appear harmless but in reality it’s a silent killer.

'holy legs!'
cannonvale beach
a few away today but wow, what a superb morning ... perfectly mild weather wise, arrived at the beach to warm up just as the sun was rising, always magical. a tabata to start, a jog to the new botanical gardens area, grabbing a rock, (ok, some think 'small boulder') on the way for the weight work. a combination of running mixed in with a handful or three of lunges and jumping squats - little rest throughout. nicely exhausting

a winner

Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can not do something. All my life I heard that I couldn't do something. My mom was working 2 jobs and going to college. I was an African American kid in an all white school. They tried to say that I couldn't....but I did. I wanted to be a Navy SEAL. They said I couldn't because I was too big and couldn't hardly swim....but I did. They said I couldn't go to Ranger School because my schedule as a SEAL wouldn't allow it....but I did.They... said that I couldn't run 100 miles because I had never ran a marathon...but I did. They said I could never complete the Ultraman because I had never done a triathlon...but I did.
Now they say I can't do RAAM because it's too soon. It's not safe....but....

just one?

Despite the way it feels, losing weight isn’t a mysterious process. It’s a matter of burning more calories than you eat. Right? But, if it were really that simple, none of us would have a weight problem. Would we? For some, weight loss can be such a struggle that we start to think we have to do something drastic to see results - diets, pills or those flaky fitness contraptions on infomercials that promise immediate success. Supplements, powders, vitamins - all of them are overpriced and have been proven to be mediocre sources of nourishment.
The answer to good health rests not in a magic potion solution, but in an integrated approach to good baseline nutrition.

aaaaah

Rest days are just as important as training days. This is the time when your body adapts to the previous day’s exercise. Make it an active rest day by walking to the shops, taking the stairs at work, parking at the far end of the parking lot, every hour take a 1-minute break and stretch. Eat well, remembering you aren’t exercising and burning all those extra calories!

make progress

If you’re unhappy or overweight, what are you getting out of remaining where you are? Nothing? The ultimate goal for most people is happiness and health so they can live their life to its fullest. Yet we all become so content in our set ways that few of us are willing to make the changes necessary to create what we wish for ourselves. We plod along in blind acceptance with brick walls built up around us. If you really want change for yourself, you have two choices. Make progress, or make excuses.
People are scared of change. Some will walk through their whole life and never do an iota of introspection. They will never truly question why their life is not going the way they want or question what they can do to improve their situation.

olympic fever

We are already a few days into the Olympics. Many of us will have watched at least some of the coverage. Fortunate if you have Fox or Austar. The rest of us with Channel 9 have plenty of advertising mixed in with some Olympic material now and again. Which is a shame really. At home, I am of the latter, and unfortunately, have been finding the advertising so prominent, especially the channels own cross promotions, it has turned me off watching for I am left simply frustrated at the lack of action. I am very aware by now that Big Brother is starting after the event. Along with many other shows! Perhaps many of you can relate to my disgruntlement. I absolutely love the Games and am still following progress of it all, just via other means.
Despite the constant barrage of ads though I thoroughly enjoyed the opening. It was thrilling and fun. I didn’t venture out of bed in the dark hours but watched the repeat later in the afternoon. Seven years in the making and what a grand production we were presented with - history, from the Industrial Revolution to present day via drama and comedy. Real people, real events. The celebration included everyone from the Queen to the community nurse. Very British. Very entertaining.
And super editing. We didn’t always get the full picture but closeups of faces to help share the emotion of the human experience. Kudos to those creating that montage for us.

mudder of a bootcamp

Fortify your workouts!
Long term goal will be working towards entering a team into the Tough Mudder event next year, but certainly not a necessity - not all joining in will want to do that but still love 'bootcamp'.
Outdoor endurnace training - it's about being strong, healthy, and fit, that you're capable of that, or anything you want to do in life! And, about team work, with everyone encouraging and motivating each other. Win win!

6am Saturday will be based in Cannonvale - 7am Sunday alternating between Prossy and Cannonvale. We will, however, also be having a couple of 'mud sessions' :D - which are out of town, but will organise car pooling when we have those.

Want to join in? Shoot me an email (ann.parrott@optusnet.com.au)
or txt 0412 753 899, there is maximum 10 spots for each one ...

instant gratification

Are you consumed by the world of “instant gratification”? How is it helping or hurting your distinct and specific goals?
We are aware of the lure of instant gratification. Everywhere you look people are attempting to take shortcuts to the goals they have set themselves. Humans like immediate. It’s easy to understand. Immediate makes sense to us. But how realistic is it?
Last night, what did you eat for dinner? I had an egg white omelette filled with spinach leaves, avocado and vegies  - probably my most favourite meal so a little unfair for comparison. It’s not that difficult to make but it is a little time consuming. Separating eggs. Cutting vegies. Cooking. Gosh, all of five minutes. High protein. Healthy. After eating, I didn’t head to a mirror to see if I had lost any weight because I had eaten something healthy. There wouldn’t be an immediate visible result, (darn!) I could have raced through the drive-thru at any fast food outlet and ordered something loaded with fatty and sugary ingredients. It possibly would have been quicker, easier and provided immediate satisfaction. Other than ‘feeling’ bloated and heavy from eating stodgy, sugary food, once again, neither would my weight have immediately ballooned visibly.

how to use chia seeds

Chia seeds are indeed a superfood. They have
  • 2x the amount of protein of any grains
  • 3x the amount of antioxidants of blueberries
  • 5x more calcium than milk
  • 2x the amount of potassium in a banana
  • 3x the iron of spinach
  • Chia seeds are also loaded with Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and have trace amounts of boron, which is an essential mineral to help transfer calcium to the bones.
For those that have asked ... found a few innovative ways (via various searches) on how to use chia seeds ... SUPEReasy to incorporate into your diet.
Below is a list of examples, if you come up with others let me know, I would love to hear of your unique ways and I can add them to the list ...

chia seeds

What are the top ten ways you benefit from eating chia seeds?
The top ten benefits of eating chia seeds seen here are in no particular order. Which one is most important to you?

1. Lose Weight Without Starving
The Chia Seed is a dieter’s dream come true. The tiny, healthy seeds can be made to taste like whatever you want, and their unique gelling action keeps you feeling full for hours. Hunger is a main enemy of real weight loss, and you don’t want to fight it with jittery expensive pills. When a chia seed is exposed to water, it forms a coating of gel, increasing its size and weight.

2. Balance Blood Sugar
Keeping balanced levels of blood sugar is important for both health and energy. Blood sugar may spike after meals, especially if you eat high-starchy foods or sweets. This can lead to ‘slumps’ in your day where you feel tired and out of energy. By balancing your blood sugar, you not only lower your risk for type 2 diabetes, but you also ensure steady, constant energy throughout your day.

no excuses! #11

"You're not disabled by the disabilities you have, you are able by the abilities you have."
~ Oscar Pistorius

There are NO excuses!

outside that comfort zone

It’s the middle of winter. It’s freezing in the morning as you snuggle up in your cozy bed, then it’s cold and dark so early in the evening. It’s easy to come up with excuses rather than get yourself out of bed or off the couch and into motion. And it’s easy to fill yourself up on stodgy food.
Every day we can all come up with an excuse as to why, instead of right now, we will start exercising and eating healthy - tomorrow... on Monday... next week, when it’s warmer again! Why? Because we have to step outside our comfort zone to get the results we are wanting, whether it be weight loss, or to simply be fitter and healthier. We all have comfort zones a little too small. We know what we like and what works for us, we know what we believe in, so why do we have to venture out to the unknown? Because the rewards are worth it!
What is it you’re after - comfort or transformation?  Make room for change and you’re making room for excitement and adventure!

a ladder, a rope and ... ? an ambulance!

WOW .... energy plus this morning :) the plus? oh, an ambulance. everything worked out good in the end though, for those concerned. I spent the rest of the morning at the hospital with wendy, the doctors a little snowed under down there today, we were surrounded by coughing coughing and MORE coughing! a jab and some muscle relaxants, some xrays taken and then we got her home to have a (hopefully) relaxed afternoon.
Pre that though - solid workout ... you all never cease to amaze me with your increasing levels of fitness and the give it everything I got attitude you bring to all your training sessions. Thank you continuing and not losing momentum ... x
I always love the opportunity to get together as a group. Great workout, yummy brekky!
Thank you to each and every one of you that was able to attend ... and cheers until the next one!

succeeding...

“Fat loss is simple once you realise how hard it is.”
Then you know how much effort, honesty, responsibility, long-range planning, creativity, intensity, discipline, thought and control the process is going to take. It is not easy. It is not going to happen from any magic pill. Only once you accept that will you succeed.

tough mudder whitsundays!

Tough Mudder is more than an event, it’s a way of thinking. By entering a Tough Mudder challenge, you’ll unlock a true sense of accomplishment, have a great time, and discover a camaraderie with your fellow participants that’s experienced all too rarely these days. Tough Mudder events are hardcore 18-20 km obstacle courses with 25-30 military-style obstacles. As the leading company in the booming obstacle course industry, Tough Mudder has already challenged 500,000 participants worldwide.
I will be entering a team from the Whitsundays for the 17/18 August 2013 - and will be starting 'tough mudder bootcamps' very shortly ... if anyone is interested please let me know :) how absolutely EXCITING an event! we may get a few bumps and bruises, but hey, we're tough!

eyeopener

How much WEIGHT the skeletal structure has to hold...
As a personal trainer, it gives me immense delight when I see someone working towards their goals successfully. They don’t just work towards a physical transformation, but also a healthy mind and spirit. I’ve been incredibly lucky to witness many clients morph into entirely different people - physically, mentally and emotionally, thanks to the positive changes - decisive changes - they make to their lives.
Most of us are aware the problems obesity can cause. Being overweight or obese puts you at risk for many diseases and conditions. The more body fat you have the more likely you are to develop: coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, breathing problems... preventable illnesses. Yet this risk doesn’t appear to concern many people. Maybe we think that won’t be us?

open your mind ...

A weekend trip to Brisbane recently was a renewed eyeopener to the prevalence of obesity in our society. The shopping centre was rife with overweightedness, no age group excluded. Most of us are aware the problems being over weight or obese can cause. It puts us at risk of many preventable diseases and ailments. When you see it on such an enormous scale it’s frightening to think about where we will end up as a nation, specially financially, as each year the obesity statistics continue to rise. It comes at great cost on all of us via the health system plus the ever increasing waiting list in both the public and private hospital sectors.
There was a lady at the cinema sitting not far from me, the middle arm lifted between the two seats to fit her. She waddled her morbidly obese body slowly out at the end with great and painful difficulty. You could see the folds of her stomach below her top. It was the saddest sight to see because her life could be so very different. I wanted to hug her and tell her that! The ability to change.
I can relate. At 120kgs I was not quite that debilitated but had I not decided to make a proactive change I probably would be by now.

pancreas cleanse

juiceupyourlife.tv
"The pancreas is one of the digestive organs responsible for assisting with food digestion and blood sugar regulation. After you eat, the pancreas releases a host of digestive enzymes and the hormone insulin, which break down foods and modulate blood sugars. People with pancreatic cancer face myriad digestion and nutrition concerns, including malnutrition due to taste and absorption changes, as well as weight loss and fatigue from treatments. Juicing foods might help patients obtain the full healing power of fruits and vegetables."

chlorella

(NaturalNews) With the quality of commercially-grown produce declining rapidly, obtaining nutritious fruits and vegetables is not an easy task. Few of us eat enough fruits and vegetables on a daily basis; it's a fact that grows more true with each generation. So how do we answer these issues, knowing the bounty of nutrients we're missing? One solution is chlorella, a green single-cell algae that packs a huge nutritious punch.

Chlorella is an astounding package of complete nutrition, considering it is such a simple life form, which is probably why it is often referred to as nature's multivitamin. The synergistic nature of chlorella's nutrients is undeniable. All of its natural properties function together in a way individual supplements can't touch. Chlorella is famous for providing a vast array of benefits while fighting numerous diseases and conditions.
